POINTS!!! - We it's been coming - Reserves (Masters) will play for points in 2012.
Relevant Rules: Age restrictions are O-35 before 31/12.No limit on the bench in season. In finals it's max 6.
Opposition can supply one umpire if they want to.FINALS ELIGIBILITY: 4 games (Resies or 47s) - but - Max 4 in Firsts to play in Resies final (unless Firsts playing same day)
SO - we can go out a ACTIVELY recruit 35yos!
Our firsts side, MARCELLIN, is travelling well, but not heaps overstocked in the 35s, and naturally will have more available for home games, so there might be room for a few of our blokes to help them out on away games when we play at the same venue.
Note: if we have too many Masters on home games, we can play a game of 9s after our game to keep blokes interested, or ease them along fitness or hardness-wise to match it with the competition superstars like Willi, Diamond Valley, Beacy or the Evil Empire Essendon.
ADAM:- GOOD. WE SHOULD AIM FOR GF.
THERE'S ENOUGH TALENT IN THIS SIDE TO GIVE THE TOP TWO A SHAKE. AND WHILE THE NUMBERS ARE GOOD I'M NOT CONVINCED THEY'VE SWOLLEN QUITE TO SURPLUS.

Ming:- No Surplus yet. However, we can recruit and not have to worry about too many on the bench like a couple of years ago, prior to the 47s. 9s can take some slack, as well as just be footy for fun.
As far as playing for Silverware - Let's aim for turning up to games, and training, then some teamwork, system, flair...
and so on up the scale...

ADAM:- YET TO MEET ANYONE WHO ENJOYED THE BEACONSFIELD TOUR...
WINNING IS THE ONLY #@*%! FOR FUN.
SOUND OUT THE YOUTH MOVEMENT IN THE OVER 35'S AND YOU'LL FIND EVERY BLOKE ACTUALLY WANTS TO WIN. THEY LOVE A BIT OF SYSTEM, SOME PLANS.
WE'RE NOT TALKING MALTHOUSE ROMAN LEGION SYSTEM, BUT THE FACT WILL DRILLS 'SWITCHING' IS ENOUGH OF A PLAN TO BEGIN WITH.
THEY HATE 'GO OUT AND HAVE A KICK AND JUST HAVE SOME FUN'. THEY'VE GONE BEYOND THAT AND THE PLAYERS ARE BETTER THAN THAT
TRUST ME, I AM THE EARS OF THE CLUB....DISSENTERS OUTSIDE THE COMMITTEE ARE FREE TO CONTACT ME ON MY CLUB LINE.

Ming:- I did mean the 9s is where we do Play for Fun, Premier Masters is too serious the last couple of years to still fall under that description.
Also, I should have said "As far as talking about playing for silverware..." meaning any talk about further up that scale might be presumptive.
And now you have got me trying to nut out the word that the automatic censoring function clobbered, could it be one of those little blue pills? Um, The only viagra for fun? Er, The only #@*%! for fun?

Bondy's in Ethiopia - If you have an ISP who doesn't register in each city, the fickle yellow blip registers the geographic mathematical middle of a country. So it looks like Bondy is in the outback, but he may equally be on the coast in Djibouti or on the Kenyan border.
Give us wunderlustrians some photos please Bondy.
Er, come to think of it:- Sometimes it might be a bit dodgy taking photos in some places.
Scan a postcard??

MUDLARKS 2012 DATES - Bruny9s WILL CONTINUE ALTERNATE MONDAYS at GILLON OVAL, Cnr Victoria & Pearson St Bruns.
* This Monday 26th Mar * 6pm at Fleming Park, Albert St, E.Bruns
* This Wednesday 28th Mar * 6:30pm training returns to Gillon Oval - BBQ & Drinks.
Will wants everybody to put in the 3 Weds in April before the first game (see below)
* Next Sat 31st Mar * 11am at Gillon Oval. AusKick have their RegoDay, and they lent us the goalposts, so we are donating some footies, then have an AFL9s game (no age limit, touch tackling) and maybe snare a Dad or two.
* South Coast Buccaneers Easter Mini-Carnival Sat 7 & Sun 8 Apr * Pambula Beach Sports Complex,
South Coast NSW (between Eden and Merimbula). Free Camping, Lots of Activities
Will:- Trying to keep the fitness up and it was made easier by running in Central Park which is a great fitness venue. I am hoping that all is going well at home and the Mudlarks are doing well, thanks to Adam for the updates on training and new faces.
I want to try and contact everyone by email, Mud and text for the lead up into the start of the season. If we can insist that everyone who intends to play with us this year gets to training in the 3 April nights before the start of the season and makes themselves known to the coaches group. Last thing I want to do is go into the year like we did last year scratching for 17 players against Reservoir. Can we organize to contact the people missing who we would like to see back....trying to think without a list but guys like Naz (full back) and Damo (if he isn't coaching juniors), etc.
Maybe we can do a proper type of team selection and "pie night" on the final training night before Game 1.
I will be back on April 2nd and then have that week off before returning to work, so happy to get on the phone to everyone and get some commitments for the first 3 games at least. Will have better wifi for the next part of the trip, so let me know if you have any questions, thoughts or ideas. All the best from Boston.

Bondy - Greetings, Mudlarks, from North Africa. Writing from Cairo and the heart of the Arab Spring. Went for a walk after work yesterday and stumbled across this scene. Who knew?
Onwards to Ethiopia this weekend and will check in from there so Ming gets another 'blip' on the global MUD Map. Only there for a week... Back in the training saddle for the first Wednesday in April.
In the mean time may all your ball skills be tidier than mine and may all your soft tissue stay intact.
CW:- Good work Bondy, I am joining in from Boston, will be in New Orleans later today when all the lazy bums in Melbourne wake up.

CW:- 28C here in New Orleans, need to head home for some cooler weather. Humid too...had a funny run this morning along the Mississippi River, found out where a lot of the drunks from Bourbon St sleep at night Got to do some hurdles along the way.
Ming, not sure where Jamaica is. We got the train from New York to Boston last week, could be in any part of New York that we travelled through.

EASTER MINI-CARNIVAL - It's ON AGAIN - for the tenth year
The best little carnival there is. Pambula Beach Buccaneers Mini Carnival.
Buccaneers use this to help their trip to AFL9s Masters Carnival in Bali on Queens Birthday Weekend - they sponsor an Orphanage over there, so it's for a good cause.
Vic Metro send a team, usually those long in the tooth, mostly 45+, but a few young guys below 40 fill the need for speed and we have pretty good results.
|Pambula is on the South Coast of NSW near Merimbula (6-7 hours from Melb)|
Beat the traffic out of town and it's a pleasant country drive, with a break in Bruthen and Genoa. Ming leaves before 6am on Good Friday and is up there by lunch to set the tent and have a few frothies.
The games are played at Pambula Beach Sports Complex, about half way between Pambula and Pambula Beach (1km from Pambula, 8km from Merimbula, beware of the Merimbula Brunch traffic jam). See Map
Don't even think about running the Booze Bus gauntlet near Merimbula.
Don't forget to organise your accommodation early, or you'll be camping behind the ground (good spot it is too - power, firewood, ice for eskies and showers at the pavillion, BBQ and band...)
VIC METRO ITINERARY
Friday Evening: 5ish - meet at the bottom pub Pambula
Friday Night: 6ish - Team meeting and good nosh-up at Sapphire Club ie Merimbula Bowls Club for dinner, often a band on afterwards. Courtesy Bus back to Pambula.

All Day: Swimming Pool next door, Skateboard pit next to ground, plenty of food, refreshments.
Sat Evening: BBQ dinner
Team meeting and feed at 6:30 Merimbula Bowls Club, GoodFriday. - Be at ground at 10:15 for 11am start.
Bring your BigV Jumper (if you have one, we'll have some to borrow or for sale) Navy or dark socks & White shorts.
Costs: Registration $50 includes trainer/ice/medical/slabs/commemorative jumper.
Presentation Sunday Night $45 Entertainment, Sportsman's Night, Meal.

Note: We play a Saturday game on June 16 at Werribee
Note: No split venues this year - last year we had 3
There's a rough version Ratty on the Masters website.
Adam: Looks like Northern districts in round one.
Jimmy: "Bring them on"

30 MIN DRILLS. 30 MIN SCRATCH MATCH - Had an extraordinary with Naj at the Gillion street Laundry mat.
It's his office away from work.
After canvassing the views of the team, I fed back to Naj the boys love the scratch matches.
He had a great idea to inject some system into it.
The craftsman will reveal all on weds...
Merciless:- These scratch matches aren't helping our game plan.
They are OK for a bit of fun, but the lack of traffic means you can get away with things you never would in a match.
BOUNCING THE BALL - In the 9s as soon as there is a turn over, blokes are clear, but properly in a match they'd settle, spot a teammate and deliver. This doesn't happen enough in the scratchies, blokes are clear and go for a dash, they get tunnel vision and don't use the leads. A defender knows that a runner while bouncing can only go straight*, and it takes some 8 paces to settle for a kick, by which time the pressure is back on and the kick almost always results in a TURNOVER. Just watch the quick kids on a Monday night fall for this trap!
The plan should always be to break away, then steady and spot up a leading teammate.
*Note: Exception to the rule - Adam takes off sideways for a bounce, (but I'm beginning to work out that it's always to his right to get onto that handball)
LONG FORWARD HANDBALL - for player to run onto, works well in 9s. But in a real game there is another line of defence that cuts these off.
OVER THE HEAD HANDBALL - thumping the ball back over your head is a 50/50 chance to get a forward break - good percentage in 9s. In a real pack situation it takes too long, maybe 3 seconds in the air then the receiver will be red-hot.
Thursday, 15 March 2012 11:50 PM - Host: 123-243-102-148.static.tpgi.com.au
Contrarian:- I disagree. The other night I saw more switching of play then I have ever seen. Still not enough. Blokes still kick to contests too often, but Will has been going on since day one about holding possession and avoiding kicking to packs.
The games are starting to inject some different habits. Habits that are hangovers from when we last played in the 90's.
The games could do with a directive. Each side has to switch the play coming out of the backline, but aside from that, I can see the benefits.
I played one praccy game last year. This year 20 odd. Even your brilliant 9's invention has helped blokes prepare for getting rid of the ball under pressure.
There's also the fact it gets blokes down to training. A great drill will never beat a game of footy.
