Wilba:- Just 2 days left for me on this Sydney course lads, so looking foreward to getting back home and back out on Gillon. Loving the way the club is going at the minute but it is going to make for another selection quandry. Make sure you sight your name on the MUD list and let me know if circumstances change. I will select and list a team by Saturday, if not sooner.

Lets make a real effort to get some of the significant girls in your life down to Ladies Day on Sunday. My wife will be there armed with her trusty camera. Hopefully some of the boys have organized something where the girls can say hello to each other and share a glass of bubbly.

Well I'm a silly duffer!:- Today being an OFF-MONDAY was sposta mean Bruny9s was ON.
But now I look at it closely, I see it comes out as Monday is OFF.
Probably a good thing, the ground was soggy in a couple of spots, the night a bit cold and the drizzle came back, not to mention those rascally Carlton supporters who would be snugged up on the coach warming-up the TV.
Unfortunately, despite being under the roof, Saints games all seem as if they're played under water. I'll watch for a minute or two, but thank heaven that Mythbusters, TopGear and Shameless are on Mondays.
And I'm coming down with the sniffles - so probably a good outcome.
Thanks Doli and Bobby for helping pick up the hats and goals

SHEPHERDING - Something I noticed in my push for back to back best clubman was how often we fail to shepherd.
It was glaring how often blokes with the ball were put under pressure that could have easily been avoided if someone had put a shepherd on for them.

chook:- great work ads, your spot on about the shepherding im still seeing stars after i got tackled and a bruised head.
Monday, 7 May 2012 11:09 AM - IP: 101.160.170.66

Zac:- Shepherding is one of those selfless pleasures on a football field. It can make a team mate grow wings and get a flow on psychological advantage for the rest of the game due to how much time and space it can generate, not to mention the hesitation and frustration it creates for your opposition. Also our team mate needs to know that they will be shepherded. Happy to share philosophies and demonstrate a couple of exercises at training on Wednesday.
Monday, 7 May 2012 11:18 AM - Host: 218-215-131-39.people.net.au

Adam:- Spot on Zac. And they did it exceptionally well.
I suspect their bigger bodies enjoyed trying to gather some collateral damage along the way.
Monday, 7 May 2012 11:31 AM - Host: 114-198-74-66.dyn.iinet.net.au

Zac:- Shepherding feels intuitive unrewarding but we need to work on counter intuition and see sacrifice as a reward, aka line-backers in grid iron etc. Collateral damage is sometimes rewarding but if that puts off an individual then the role of an impedance provider against and space provider for the team can be an alternative view. Without meaning to sound egocentric, I used my frame in 3 or 4 goals yesterday. I don't give a toss that I didn't on the board, but they were goals for my team and more specifically my "forward team" which was the intended result. Furthermore, shepherding and shielding when used properly and legally are a decongestant for our running style of game. Let's experiment and trial some things on Wednesday even if it's after training in the club rooms.
Monday, 7 May 2012 03:15 PM - Host: 218-215-131-39.people.net.au

Paws:- Thanks to Zac for the kind offer of extra physical contact in the change rooms after training. No doubt each individual will decide for themselves if they want to engage in such hijinks.
Seriously thou folks, I am on the same wavelength and have a couple of drills already conceived to build on our positive work on Sunday, including one involving shepherding. Whilst we will clearly not be belting each other, we will work on body position and shepherding, so mouthguards might be useful.
Nice game analysis Adam (and a personal thanks for monitoring my phone). I think there is some good information in there for us.
Ultimately we played a very competitive game, toughing it out for 4 quarters, which stands us in great stead against any future foe. We know now (if we did not already) that we can match it with any side, and should take plenty of confidence into our next game.
Try and recover well, and we can work on building on our good work on Wednesday. Will suggested 1 hour tops on the track so we'll be short, sharp and constructive.
Tuesday, 8 May 2012 02:44 PM - IP: 120.153.163.161

Will:- Easy does it boys, our first objective is to get a fit 24 to the starting line for the Plenty Valley game.....someone told me it was Beaconsfield but have them in game 4. I have given Paws some clear instructions on where we want to go with training, working on team strengths and deficincies. We had an aim to take the leaking of balls out the back door in our backline after game 1 and that certainly improved. We want the improvement to come this fortnight in tackling pressure and player awareness (vision). Keep up the good work and lets get a win next time out.

Adam, thanks for the wrap up. Photographer will be back for Ladies Day. Lets make sure we promote that next two training nights. Cheers.

Ah Yes - the 1%ers!:- Have a watch of The Little Markster Frendo... he shepherds, blocks, runs the lines, gets back, TALKS, and doesn't always get the stat.
Sometimes these skills and KPIs take a while to come back to players who've had a few years off, but coming to the Muddies they are! Great effort on Sunday, to stay with a team as settled as Willi, for the whole 4 quarters within a goal, brilliant to watch

MATCH REP..FINAL ACT - The third quarter, was a continuation of the arm wrestle. Until the ten minute mark. You don’t play 100 odd games for Port unless, you’ve got some tricks.
It began with a lace up from Staples, a mark in the square, and the third, a 45 metre ‘don’t move an inch please goal umpire’ delight just before three quarter time.
If Bourkey could take this into the final quarter, you sensed we had it.
And within five minutes, it looked like going to script. Staples, in his new, unfamiliar role of unselfishness, picked out Bourkey on a lead 30 out. Two of the Willy boys had also picked out the lead and did their best to maim the potential match winner.
There’s no question we had our chances.
Lack of talk, had George playing on from 40. Had he gone back for the kick, history suggests it was bread and butter for someone with his kicking ability. With five minutes left, pure desperation dragged us four points up.
And that’s where the match report should end. So I’m going to wrap it up quick for fear of succumbing to creative licence and rewriting the result.
To be honest the last few minutes are a blur. A couple of their forwards got the space we hadn’t allowed.
Their midfield got a couple of easier clearances. A little bit more polish probably got them over the line.
It was a monumental effort, but even Willy would concede, we shoulda got the chocolates.
FINAL SCORES: Bruns.7.7 Williamstown. 7.11
Best…Bourkey, Paws, Mingot, Peyts, Mann, Glenn, Perelberg, Staples, Kanna.

Waz:- The return of the Peoples Poet - fine summary Adam, this should bring renewed interest in Ipswich, the Tetons and other parts of Northern Africa - fear not wherever it is Ming will have it covered.
Really disappointed we couldn't get the win, but the spirit around the club is infectious and we're clearly heading in the right direction. Its all the cliches but we just need to get back on the horse and get into training. That said my right hand is bloody swollen and I think this is the sorest I have felt in my limited footy career so far.
Our backline was superb

MATCH REP PART TWO... - If Williamstown thought they merely had to turn up, and the Brunswick of years gone by would be there waiting to capitulate, the first term was a reality check.
This wasn’t a case of us trying to hang on against a stronger opponent. Glenn was dominant in the ruck feeding a voracious Paws led midfield time and again.
The backline was at its misely best. Few sides would concede less than the Mudlarks back half.
Mingot and Fodge ran the lines time and again. Sakiri, Mann, Campisi and Thirss blanketed their big guns.
At quarter time, it was 2 goals each. For ten minutes in the second term it appeared the polish of Willimastown would blow us away.
It was to be the only period for the entire game they would dominate. While there’s no question Willy missed a couple of sodas, our pressure was persistent. Zac hit bodies in a way other sides hit us.
Jimmy’s tackling was superb. He has the speed to lay 7 or 8 a game. On the topic of tackling, Campisi’s unrewarded tackle at CHB, was a howler. To quote Mark Neeld…’Political correctness’ forbids from me saying more.
Peyts backed up the marketing directors hype. Any bloke who attacks the ball with his head, deserves all the chook coffee cards we can throw at him.
Up forward Big Fodge never stopped competing. He was often up against two of their monsters.
Staples, penalised early for in the game for holding the ball, was beginning to run his man into the ground.
Four goals each. No side appearing as if they were about to blow the other away.
594).Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:41 PM -
DELBRIDGE MATCH REPORT- PART 1 - As a Footscray football club supporter, my trips over the Westgate have always been defined by what happened at the Western Oval.
20 years later it’s no different.
This time it was WJ Croft reserve, nestled amongst the beautiful refineries (So pretty when lit up at night) of the beachside suburb of Altona.
Will’s right. You do judge your chances on the combined kilograms of the opposition as they run out.
If it was a mounting yard, we’d clearly had the trackwork, they clearly had their winter coats.
But rarely do these sorts of deep analytics play on the field.
This was Willamstown. They lose one game a year to the team vying for the next spot in the AFL, Beaconsfield.
Their last game was an opening 104 point demolition against Plenty Valley.
The larks were coming off a rusty 7 goal victory at home.
We had four of our better players out. Tiger Hardy, Un Hardy Delbridge, Ex Docker Grainger, and function centre svengali Chris Vrottis.
But this is a different side. Where once we had Will on the phone as he ran out…’Johnny, you playing today mate?...This year we have depth.

CW:- Nick Presti was another handy absentee.

Peyts - I'm regretting my suggestion last night to practice taking the ball on the hands. chook - hey ming, are you enjoying it without the empress?coming home to a quiet house, putting your feet up,having a beer, watching footy etc.ha ha ha

Ming:- Just spent 3 days in Perth with the Empress, drove around looking at the area near Freo. Found a Brunswick type trendy imported-stuff supermarket that the Empress loves. Nothing is open on Sundays except Church, Footy and Freo Restaurants. Tracked down the FreoPhantoms, played half a game of over-45 with Freo/Rockingham and a game with Southern Swans Over-50s, we did some networking with guys that I know from the National Carnival, Jimi would love the purple and black diagonal striped shorts.

Bondie - Enjoying the banter on the MUD and love your work on the round one wrap up, Mr Staples. I’m particularly pleased to see myself up there as the yardstick in over-celebrating average goals. I often reflect on my “high ten” with Chook during our drubbing at Beaconsfield last year... I was so deeply pleased just to be involved! I cannot promise it won’t happen again.

In response to Tiger’s earlier commentary about the photo from round one being up on my mantle piece I would like to advise that I’ve actually made prints for everyone. They are life size and make an excellent mural in medium to large sized rooms. These will be available at training this week for the very reasonable price of- I WILL PAY YOU FIFTY BUCKS TO TAKE THIS HOME AND PUT IT UP.
